so this morning i had booked my scooter in for a service and on the way to there whilst on victoria road, the scooter broke down. there were no waring signs. it was quite odd. i just decided to stop working. it’s only done 11,500 or so kilometres. i hope it’s nothing too hard to fix and that i can pick it up this afternoon. other wise i shall be up the creek without a paddle.
work has just bought visual studio for me to do coding. which is sort of funny, seeing as i don’t even run windows normally. it is a good thing, but i’m proceeding with caution. application programming has always sort of scared me, and i’ve always seen trying to do programming on windows/.NET as spreading myself too thin.
but it’s another skill, which in the long run will make me more indespensible/hireable. which puts my mind at ease a little considering other things on the horizon.
i just realised there were two posts that were saved to “drafts”. wordpress is not very intuative like that.
chris evans, minister for immigration on the large amount of powers his portfolio has:
“I’m uncomfortable with that, not just because of concern about playing God, but also because of the lack of transparency and accountability for those decisions.”
i am consistantly impressed with our new government. and while i know a lot of it is rhetoric, there’s action behind it.
meanwhile, i was very pleased to see nelson’s preferred prime-minister rating drop to 9%
might i just say, for the record, i’m thoroughly enjoying paul keatings commentary on the election results…
on peter costello: “all tip and no iceberg”,
on tony abbot: “He’s what I call a young fogey. Howard was the old fogey, he’s the young fogey.”,
on brendan nelson: “[I liked him more] when he had the ring in his ear”.
and on malcom turnbull: “You light him up, there’s a bit of a fizz but then nothing, nothing.”
tonight i had both a birthday and then pablo & rusty’s 1 year of being open anniversary. rach asked me before we went out “is everyone going to be talking about the election… *groan* or just you?”. haha, i laughed. yes, indeed i was. but everyone else was talking about it, and after pablo’s we all came round to my house to watch the coverage.
i must say.. i’m filled with joy at the results. as i’m in bennelong, i had a direct hand in (i sincerely hope, the pendulum has yet to stop) ousting johnny. for the first time in my voting history am i actually proud of the outcome of an election. the last two federal elections brought me close to tears, not so much at the numbers, but at the lack of genuine debate and unity.
it has yet to be said how genuine and how unified this new government will be, but i’m glad australia has set a new course, and has seemed to give a mandate for it fairly decisively.
i am however a little sympathetic to john howard. it’s a little saddening to see him humbled in such a severe way. my prayer is that he enjoys life as a retired grandpappy, and that we don’t see another john brogden.
i’m not registered in the seat of bennelong. or at least, i hope i’m registered. i put the form in the mail midday yesterday. and it only had a few blocks to go, seeing as i posted it from pitt street.
now i can feel like my vote counts. it probably doesn’t, but hope springs eternal.
yay, work is paying for me to go to the global leadership summit. there’ll be colin powell, jimmy carter and bill hybels, among others..
