i spent the night with superman

Thursday, June 29th, 2006

oh my goodness!! i’m still a little speechless. tonight i saw superman returns, and witnessed the return of the worlds greatest hero. (besides jesus of course, but the symbolism is certainly there). it’s sort of like the end of an era and the beginning of a new one.

see, i grew up on the 70’s/80’s reeve superman, and now at long last the baton has pass on. a new superman, a new style. but thankfully it harkons back to the old films nicely. this isn’t much of a review. i’m still absorbing it all. i definantly have to see it a few more times to really truly make up my mind. superman was such a big part of my childhood, and i would have seen the old films on video literally hundreds of times. so this film had big shoes to fill. but overall, i really like what they have done, and it was great to finally see/hear superman in a theatre!!

warmth

joel’s gone away for the week, so i’ve borrowed his heater. i’ve almost forgotten what it’s like to have a warm room in winter.

warner bros have released 11 clips from superman returns. at first i wasn’t going to watch them because i wanted to save the experience for when the film comes out. but curiosity got the better of me. and they’re so good, i think i might wet my pants.

the poster looked a bit camp. but these clips have redeemed the film. i think this could stand to be a better film (minus the lack of christopher reeve), than the original.

continuing the tradition

saturday night was bel’s 27th. it was a cocktail party of sorts, and i though people were going to dress up a bit, but i think i dressed up the most, and quite possibly the seediest. which segued well into everyone requesting some dance moves from me. i’m getting used to playing the entertainment/village-idiot at such parties. perhaps i just need to start bringing my own cake to jump out of.

i did make a great new discovery thanks to mark though, in the form of sufjan stevens.

wacking day

Tuesday, June 13th, 2006

we’ve had a mouse problem lately. they’ve been taking off with all sorts of off food we unintentionally leave for them, like bread roles, apples and potatoes. last night joel and pete bought mouse traps.

this morning i woke to pete running around with a broom chasing them. he sort of looked like this comical crazy old man chasing mice in is head. only they were real. as he was doing it, i was standing in the kitchen eating my breakfast and one ran by my feet, so i kicked him. the mouse that is. (i’m presuming it was a he). he didn’t seem phased. he was pretty seedy looking, and in size was closer to a rat than a mouse.

the final kill score was:
us = 2
mice = nil

i have my wacking stick primed and ready for a rematch tomorrow morning.

tonight i had an epiphany. i was at coles, and for the first time in my life i decided to buy a box of cereal.

i’m back from my overnight retreat thingo, at kihilla conference centre. i’m not quite sure what to make of it, post mortem. it was a very reflective quiet endeavour, and as predicted i got incredibly restless at times. i’m sort of glad it was over. but i did come away inspired to journal more. i have a terrible time journaling, so i might give it another crack.

meanwhile i’m incredibly exhausted, which is quite perplexing. i haven’t really done anything for the past 36 hours.

also, i was looking through the guestbook last night, and i found an entry from jo, dated 1998.
