two cents

might i just say, for the record, i’m thoroughly enjoying paul keatings commentary on the election results…
on peter costello: “all tip and no iceberg”,

on tony abbot: “He’s what I call a young fogey. Howard was the old fogey, he’s the young fogey.”,

on brendan nelson: “[I liked him more] when he had the ring in his ear”.

and on malcom turnbull: “You light him up, there’s a bit of a fizz but then nothing, nothing.”

tonight i had both a birthday and then pablo & rusty’s 1 year of being open anniversary. rach asked me before we went out “is everyone going to be talking about the election… *groan* or just you?”. haha, i laughed. yes, indeed i was. but everyone else was talking about it, and after pablo’s we all came round to my house to watch the coverage.

i must say.. i’m filled with joy at the results. as i’m in bennelong, i had a direct hand in (i sincerely hope, the pendulum has yet to stop) ousting johnny. for the first time in my voting history am i actually proud of the outcome of an election. the last two federal elections brought me close to tears, not so much at the numbers, but at the lack of genuine debate and unity.

it has yet to be said how genuine and how unified this new government will be, but i’m glad australia has set a new course, and has seemed to give a mandate for it fairly decisively.

i am however a little sympathetic to john howard. it’s a little saddening to see him humbled in such a severe way. my prayer is that he enjoys life as a retired grandpappy, and that we don’t see another john brogden.
